Why We Recommend Crucial for SSDs and RAM (and What to Watch For)

At Lyme PC Repair, we work with a lot of hardware — and when it comes to solid-state drives and memory, Crucial is one of our go-to brands.

Here’s why we recommend them:

  • Reliable Performance & Longevity – Whether it’s RAM or storage, Crucial gear holds up over time.
  • Excellent Compatibility Tools – Their RAM compatibility checker takes the guesswork out of upgrades. Even if Crucial’s site is out of stock, it gives you a model number you can use to order confidently from Amazon, Best Buy, or B&H.
  • Painless Warranty Process – No hoops, no weird RMA forms. Just solid support.

But here’s something most people miss:
Not all Crucial SSDs are created equal. The MX series offers noticeably better performance, endurance, and features like DRAM cache — while the BX series is more of a budget-tier drive with slower sustained speeds.

We’ve personally used BX drives (yep, even us!) and while they’re fine for basic storage, you’ll notice lag if you try to run your main OS or heavier apps off them. The MX line is worth the small extra cost if you care about speed or responsiveness.

TL;DR:
If you’re upgrading a system or building a new one, Crucial is a safe bet — just pay attention to the model line when buying SSDs.
